Comparing Observations and Parameterizations of Ice?Ocean Drag Through an Annual Cycle Across the Beaufort Sea

Understanding and predicting sea ice dynamics ice-ocean feedback processes requires accurate descriptions of momentum fluxes across the interface. In this study, we present observations from an array moorings in Beaufort Sea. Using a force-balance approach, determine drag coefficient values over annual cycle range conditions. Statistics high resolution draft measurements are used to calculate expected morphology-based parameterization schemes. With both approaches, ranged ?1 10 × 10?3, with minimum fall maximum at end spring, consistent previous observations. The parameterizations do reasonable job observed if under geometry is known, reveal that keel primary contributor total coefficient. When translations bulk model outputs included parameterizations, they overpredict on floe edges, leading inverted seasonal seen prior models. these results investigate efficiency flux atmosphere-ice-ocean interface suggests inter-annual trend increasing coupling between atmosphere ocean.
